Electronic music, direct.
VOLT is a music distribution and marketplace platform open to electronic artists anywhere in the world, built to sell directly to the people who listen to them — no distributor, no label contract, no corporate cut. It's run by VEAEA, a registered Australian charity based in Victoria, and every sale on VOLT funds the scene VEAEA exists to grow.
Who runs it
VOLT is operated by the Victorian Endowment for the Advancement of Electronic Arts Inc. (VEAEA), a DGR-endorsed Australian charity (ABN 24 619 030 300). VOLT isn't a separate company skimming a fee on top of VEAEA — it is VEAEA's music platform, and its takings are the charity's income. There are no outside shareholders to pay.
Every account you create on VOLT — fan or artist — automatically becomes a free VEAEA Associate Membership: community events, priority access to Volted Music Fridays, and a say in eligible VEAEA resolutions, at no cost.
A Victorian mission, open to the world
VEAEA's charitable purpose is specific: develop the electronic arts scene in Victoria. But a scene doesn't grow by staying inside its own borders — the releases, standards, and attention that raise a local scene's ceiling usually come from outside it too. So VOLT isn't limited to Victorian or Australian artists. It's open to electronic artists anywhere in the world.
That's a long-term bet, not just a sign-up policy: the more VOLT is a place any artist, anywhere, would actually choose to release on, the more it does for the scene it was built to grow — by making Victoria's electronic arts environment somewhere worth paying attention to, not just somewhere it happens to be based.
Why direct beats the usual cut
Most electronic music platforms take a large slice before an artist sees a cent — Beatport's model can run up to 40–50% once the storefront and distributor cuts stack; Bandcamp takes 15% plus payment processing. VOLT takes a flat 5%, calculated on the sale price alone, and that's the whole fee — no distributor sitting between the artist and the platform.
On Volted Music Fridays — every Friday, Melbourne time — VEAEA waives that 5% entirely. 100% of every sale goes straight to the artist.
What artists get
- Upload directly — no distributor, no label contract, no waiting for approval from a middleman
- Lossless by default: upload one format and VOLT auto-fills WAV, AIFF, FLAC and MP3 for buyers
- Keep 95% of every sale, 100% on Volted Music Fridays
- Monthly payouts by direct bank transfer once sales clear the $20 threshold
- Optional auto-sync to Kōfun and the VEAEA Music Server, so a release stays discoverable across the wider VEAEA ecosystem
- A direct booking inbox — promoters and bookers can reach an artist through VOLT with no commission taken
What fans get
Buy releases outright or top up the VOLT Wallet with AUD credit that never expires — top-ups above $20 earn bonus credit. Every purchase is DRM-free: download each format up to five times, keep it forever. Prices are set by the artist, and many releases are name-your-price.
Volt Records — the vinyl marketplace
Alongside digital releases, Volt Records is a peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling physical vinyl, with Discogs-backed catalogue lookup and condition grading built into every listing. It runs on the same nonprofit logic as the rest of VOLT — a flat 2.5% fee charged on the item price only, never on shipping.
Where the money goes
VEAEA's share of every VOLT sale goes back into the organisation's charitable purpose: supporting Victoria's electronic arts community — its artists, its events, and programs like SafeGuide and the wider VEAEA ecosystem. It doesn't go to shareholders, because VOLT doesn't have any.
